Your family's always been there for you. How can you be there for them?

Protecting your family means keeping them safe for today and tomorrow. It means caring for the home and belongings you've worked so hard to give them, and making sure they'll be taken care of financially no matter what.

Over the course of your life, saving money for your family could involve a lot of different things:

  • Making sure you and your spouse have solid income later in life
  • Protecting the assets you and your family have earned
  • Saving in advance for your child's college education
  • Allowing your savings to grow at a steady pace
  • Being ready for unexpected health problems
  • Preparing the legacy you’ll leave behind

Thinking ahead for your family is one of the most loving things you can do for them. The effort you’re putting in now will make a big difference later on.

Your first step should be to list out your money saving goals for your family according to which are the most urgent. (Start with the list above and add anything else that comes to mind.) Once you have your list, break the first one or two goals into smaller, short-term steps to take. You can also start to choose solutions to help you meet each goal—like life insurance or annuities to protect your spouse, or a 529 college savings plan for your child.
